Northern Thunder have signed an international goal shooter from Trinidad and Tobago. Anastascia Wilson (35) is a seasoned international who has 80 Caps for the Caribbean side. Trinidad and Tobago are widely accepted as the main competition to Jamaica in the Caribbean and are currently ranked 10th in the world ahead of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Wilson is a lance corporal in the Trinidad and Tobago defence force and plays for them in their state league with the other main teams being the Police Force, Fire Service and Civil Servants.
Wilson said “I am excited to be playing in the Co-operative Netball Superleague and I am really looking forward to learning the English style of play which in turn will improve me as a player and hopefully help my country (Trinidad and Tobago ) achieve a higher world ranking.” Trinidad and Tobago have qualified to compete in the commonwealth games in October in Dehli.
Thunder head coach Mike Greenwood said “ It is great to have Anastascia here at Thunder. Anastascia is a quality player who will give us a different option”.
Anastscia will be available to be selected for the squad for Saturdays local derby between Thunder and Leeds at the Castle Leisure Centre in Bury.
Game time is 2.00pm with the Junior game on at 4.00pm.
