NORTHERN Thunder, the North West’s national Fiat Netball Superleague club, has newly labelled its home ground - The Manchester Thunderdome!
The club which will be playing its matches at Wright Robinson Sport College this season for the first time has christened their playing arena to reflect their ambitions in the forthcoming Fiat Netball Superleague.
And Club Director Debbie Hallas is expecting plenty of blood and thunder-style play when the team plays its first match at The Thunderdome on January 23 against the Yorkshire Jets.
Said Hallas: “The Fiat Netball Superleague is all about showcasing netball’s finest talent in big, atmospheric arenas. “Around £150,000 has been invested in netball facilities at the college to accommodate top-flight netball and we wanted a name for the arena which would match our determination, passion and commitment for the game. We want to make our home ground a fortress and The Manchester Thunderdome just about sums it all up.”
And she added: “We’re delighted that Wright Robinson Sports College is happy to go along with our new name.”
When it enters The Manchester Thunderdome for its first match in January, the Northern Thunder squad will be parading three internationals fresh from their success as part of the England squad which won the World Netball Series in Liverpool at the weekend.
Sara Bayman, Emma Dovey and Laura Malcolm all played a part in England’s World Netball Series win which finished with a thrilling final encounter against World Champions New Zealand.
